The non-contact AC voltage indicator detects the presence of voltage in an insulated conductor and at a short distance from it. Voltage detection is indicated by a red LED, an audible signal, and an indication on the LCD display.

The tester uses the phenomenon of electromagnetic induction. The closer to the voltage source, the higher the frequency of indications. When turned on, the tester operates in a low sensitivity mode, where the frequency of indications increases when the wire is touched. In high sensitivity mode, the indication frequency increases approximately 1 cm from the cable. The tester also enables "non-contact" detection of a break in a live electric wire. At the point of interruption, the tester will stop signaling the presence of voltage.
