The BGS DIY 9940 contact soldering iron with a bent tip is a high-quality and efficient DIY-class device designed for joining metal elements by soldering them with tin-lead soft solder alloy. This simply constructed tool operates almost flawlessly, and with proper tip maintenance, it will serve you for many years. The soldering iron is suitable for soldering copper wires and basic electronic components.
Recommendations for tip maintenance: Overheating and mechanical damage can quickly destroy the protective layer. If the tip oxidizes, you may encounter problems melting the solder. The tin no longer melts and adheres to the tip, instead it rolls up and falls off. We recommend that the first time you heat the soldering iron, you apply a small amount of tin, such as brass shavings, to the end of its tip and remove any excess. This formed layer of tin will protect the tip from oxidation. We advise tinning the tip every time you finish working.
